Developmental log for Headbangin'!

Premise
At the Beginning

The idea of this game was created for an assignment in university meant to create and develop distinct art directions and / styles in games. I decided to develop it further with some rough gameplay outline.

Summary

I wanted to apply an 80s comic book style with its iconic Ben Day dotted shading effect as the core art direction for the game.

Narrative - Rough Outline

  • You're an overworked janitor with a DJ friend who dropped by to help motivate you through your task list.
    You're on an intense time limit to finish everything. As far as you know a little property damage doesn't hurt anyone.

Setting + Gameplay Concept

  • Setting - An Underwater Public Highschool
  • This is just a rough idea on how I imagine the game to take place in. I was thinking of going to the school setting they have in Finding Nemo. But I realized that it was too realistic and I opted to go for a more anthropomorphic character design for the underwater creatures.
  • Gamplay Version A
    2D side-scroller game, where player navigate through corridors and fulfill objectives in different rooms within a time limit.
  • Gameplay Version B
    Rush through the school hallways with a mop and clean classroom as fast as you possibly can. Basically powerwash simulator but with a time limit and accompanied by metal/ rock music.
